I hope you enjoy the photos of the Madeline Island
Ice-road. These photos and more will be found in my
book "On Thin Ice" due out this April. If you would like
to purchase a "pre-sale" copy of this very special book
you can do so by going to museum sales.
I will add more ice-road photos over time so keep checking back.

Early photo of Elmer Nelson standing beside his

tires and the line of trees on the ice.

Photo of car being raised up from the bottom by
the Nelson Construction tug and barge. The driver
of this vehicle had become stuck while driving
across the Lake and walked the remainder of the
way to Madeline. The next morning when Arnie
and Ronnie Nelson searched for the car all they
could find was an open hole. The car was located
by divers in 130' of water.

Whoops, this isn't the road! Photo of a car just
off the Bayfield shore.
